Our founder, William Hill, started out in 1934, travelling around Birmingham on a motorbike and taking bets in the local area. He made enough capital to open his very first office above a hat shop taking racecourse bets over the telephone.
As a company, William Hill opened its first 18 betting shops all over London to capitalise on their popularity.
We became the first bookmakers to offer betting at Wimbledon.
William Hill became the first bookmaker floated on the London Stock Exchange (at just 225p per share).
We expanded our global footprint with customer service centres in Bulgaria and the Philippines, and marketing in Tel Aviv. A new HQ was also opened in Gibraltar.
We launched our brand new app and achieved an incredible 500,000 downloads.
Our international expansion continued with our purchase of Grand Parade, with offices in both London and Poland.
We purchased Swedish gaming company Mr. Green and welcomed Anthony Joshua as our new Global Brand Ambassador.
We were bought by Caesars for a cool £2.9bn.
