Tell us about your role and what it involves:
I'm setting up a new Data and Analytics team at William Hill’s Krakow office. Our goal is to ultimately help people make better decisions based on data, which is why we are evolving the development of existing warehouse solution used by financial, regulatory and compliance teams, as well as building a Smart Big Data platform from scratch. The new Smart Big Data platform will consist of fast data streaming, processing terabytes of data in flight multiple decisioning algorithms with the use of logical reasoning, machine learning and artificial intelligence (e.g. digital assistant), all in order to go one better for our customers through delivering a safe, fun and engaging environment.
Our data engineering teams together with data scientists are working on advanced systems capable of collecting and processing huge amount of data, finding patterns, reasoning and acting faster than humans with machine learning algorithms that can incrementally get smarter each time new data is coming to the system.
We are a group of people passionate about the science 'behind the bet', always outcome oriented and focused on solving real world problems based on data and advanced analytics.
What excites you about tech at William Hill?
We are building solutions for William Hill using cutting edge technologies, including open source, and co-operating with exciting partners like Google, Amazon, Apple, Facebook and others. We are heavily researching and investing in emerging technologies. The fact that we deliver solutions with real impact on customer, providing engaging experiences to people and we know the value we bring to the business. It is a truly satisfactory experience to be a part of delivering new and enhanced capability that has a wide positive impact.
Which projects are you most proud of that you’ve worked on here?
I'm very excited about the new opportunity having just joined Data and Analytics team. Last year I was managing the Core Product channel, and I had an immense satisfaction working with teams building loyalty systems, as well as creating software 'building blocks' aimed at providing the same look and feel across all our business verticals, reduce costs, time and effort required to deliver. This work was associated with a vast range of technologies, such as web & mobile front-end components, customer experience management system, and full stack loyalty and marketing solutions.
How do you go one better every day?
I'm investing in personal development by learning new things keeping me moving forward. If you want to accomplish something you need to learn new things constantly. The beauty of our work is that we never fully settle because the world is continuously changing and challenging us in a positive way.
Can you tell us a bit about your career story?
I’ve started as a software developer, and for the first couple of years, I was growing my technical expertise to eventually become a senior engineer, team lead and architect. From the beginning, I was fortunate to work closely with customers and partners, and have learned a lot about the business itself.
I was always looking to find out who was going to use our software and why, what features customers would need and how it was going to change their work. My passion is about creating the best experience for the end-user, and I'm building strong relationships with people. Keeping the big picture in mind has helped me to see things in context, which in turn translated in increased quality of delivered solutions.
When I’ve decided to make a move from a technical role to development manager position, my previous technical experience has immediately benefited the way I was working with my teams. The focus was not only on deliverables but first of all on business goal, making sure that everyone is aware of the context, value and impact of our work. As a manager, multiple times in my career, I had the opportunity to grow small, yet very successful teams into large fully functional teams.
We have many opportunities we can exploit by working together, have a great time working together and make an even bigger positive impact on the customers.
